Comparison is everywhere. Social media makes it worse by constantly showing us other people doing what we do, only differently, better, or more successfully. That is why the first discipline is to bless what God is doing in someone else. Resist cynicism. Resist the critical spirit that belittles others to create a sense of superiority. Discernment matters, but comparison corrupts discernment when it becomes resentment or a hidden need to be in the inner ring.
The second discipline is to be grateful for what you get to do. Remember your calling. Remember your unique focus. You cannot do everything, and you are not meant to. Gratitude steadies the heart, restores joy, and helps us stay faithful to the work God has actually entrusted to us. So bless what God is doing, be thankful for what you’re doing, and stay joyful in the kingdom of God.
