My Apologies for My Absence

When I started writing Substack last year, the plan was to write weekly.

The plan was also to publish for free, no subscription necessary.

Some of you have been generous in paying an annual subscription, which is unnecessary as all of my articles have been available to the public.

I do appreciate the votes of confidence, though.

Either that, or you are bad at reading instructions, to my benefit.

Regardless, it is those of you who paid to read my writings out of the goodness of your hearts who I feel most guilty about.

I’ve not been writing weekly for a couple months. I’ve been lucky to get something out every two weeks.

Regular readers will know why. Turns out canvassing, phone calling and fundraising takes a lot of time.

Who knew?

Oh, yeah. Me.

I should have known that.

Regardless, the election will be over in about ten days and, after a week to recharge, I plan get back to my regularly scheduled fist shaking at the world.

Personally, I found it refreshing and focussing to have that weekly writing schedule. It forced me to do research, rather than scroll social media.

Here is what I have in mind:

1. A regular series on what I see as the national and state policy reforms that will be necessary once we get past our current crisis. I will aim to highlight those reforms that tend to poll well across the political spectrum, as we will need consensus to implement them. Plus, I’ll look for Arizona policy analogies to these federal reforms. This will be a hopeful series. No cult lasts forever, and we will have a historic opportunity to save our country —if we chose to take it.
   

2. I’ll sprinkle regular musing on the resistance, public policy, life or whatever impressive thing my dog did that week. You know, the stuff I was supposed to be doing all this time.
   

3. Win or lose in the SRP race, I will put forward a serialized account of lessons learned in this unprecedented election. I believe that, in a political environment where people are tired of political parties, and are looking for ways to affect change locally, the SRP board election is a case study for policy and campaign nerds. Yes, I see you.

The third series will be behind a paywall, however. Plus, I must know you personally for you to get access. This is going to be valuable information.

While I’m not trying to make my riches with a paywall on a little-read blog on the far outskirts of a galactic media environment, I am trying keep lessons learned where they belong: with reformers.

So, that’s it.
