Honey, I'm Home!

Last year I was so certain I would be able to write a weekly Substack and a weekly campaign newsletter.

How adorably aspirational.

But here I am, elected and waiting to take office over at the SRP board on May 4th.

Yes. May 4th.

May the 4th be with you, too.

Do you understand how difficult it is to resist going to that swearing in wearing a Chewbacca costume?

But I won’t. I’m more serious than that. And not nearly tall enough. It would look terrible.

Particularly for those of you who were kind enough to subscribe, despite this being a free Substack, I feel like I owe you some quality content.

But I don’t want to drag you in to the pageantry and mystique of the world of utility policy if you don’t want to go there.

So, this is what I’m gonna do.

I’m going to maintain a regular newsletter and blog over at my SRP Board campaign site. You can read about my goals in this blog, and you can sign up for a newsletter here.

Over there I’m going to report on and educate about SRP, clean energy and the utility decisions that affect your life so directly.

Try to control your excitement.

As usual, I promise that newsletter will not come more than once per week and it will not be filled with dramatic pleas for donations.

With this Substack I’m going to launch a series on the types of reforms that our country will need to embark on, once the days of the Trump administration are over.

If you are a fan of historian Heather Cox Richardson, as I am, you know that she believes that our current distress could very well be followed by an era of systemic reforms, the likes of which we saw after the previous Guilded Age.

As we see Trump and his cronies falter and flail, I choose to embrace optimism and look to a sparkling star on the horizon. I believe that it is important for us to start thinking about these things now, even though our ability to enact them may seem to be years away.

So, I will cover some of the most compelling reform ideas that I think could have broad appeal, such as Supreme Court reforms, digital privacy reforms or reasonable controls of AI.

I will also focus on some local Arizona reforms, and how some of these larger national reforms could help us here closer to home.

In addition, I hope to send you some post cards from the road. I plan to do at least once cross country adventure in the van with Ellie.

I hope you will find these topics as interesting and as compelling as I do.
