Powdery Mildew on Squash

I cannot find any evidence that suggests aspirin prevents or controls powdery mildew. Can you reference any scientific studies to support your claim?

Aspirin mimics nature in some good ways but also, it turns out, some not so good phytohormone ways. And the spotty effectiveness and lack of insect deterrence on cucurbits led me away from its use. The plants seem to handle PM better than the bacterial and viral attacks left behind by piercing insects.

In the garden, aspirin and salicylic acid trigger the exact same biological defense response because aspirin breaks down into salicylic acid when it hits the plant. Plants naturally produce tiny amounts of salicylic acid when they are stressed by drought, pests, or disease.

How They Work:
Systemic Acquired Resistance (SAR): When you spray a plant with an aspirin solution, the salicylic acid acts like an internal alarm system. It tricks the plant into thinking it is under attack, causing it to proactively fortify its own cell walls and launch its immune system before an actual infection hits.

Common Targets:
Gardeners use this trick primarily on Nightshade family plants (like tomatoes, peppers, and potatoes) to help them resist blights, fungi, and transplant shock.

The Standard Garden Recipe:
If you want to try it, do not overapply it, as too much will stunt or burn the plant. The accepted garden dosage is:Ratio: 1 standard, uncoated 325 mg aspirin tablet crushed and thoroughly mixed into 1 gallon of water. (I use 2)

Application:
Spray it as a fine mist on the leaves (including the undersides) early in the morning every 2 to 3 weeks. (Dries to a fine powder, washes with rains)

@Meadowlark mentioned something in a post a long time ago that works better. This is along the lines of creating a high pH environment as the fungi families generally like low pH it turns out, and can even create enzymes specifically to lower the pH around them.

The Potassium Bicarbonate Method: (Highly Recommended): Mix 1 tablespoon of potassium bicarbonate and ½ teaspoon of liquid castile soap into 1 gallon of water. Potassium bicarbonate directly kills the fungus on contact and is safer for cucurbit leaves than heavy chemical alternatives.

The Baking Soda Method: (Alternative): If you only have household pantry items, mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and ½ teaspoon of liquid soap into 1 gallon of water.

Application: Spray the leaves thoroughly—especially the undersides and lower, shaded leaves where the mildew starts. Apply early in the morning every 5 to 7 days until it clears.

Crucial Cultural Adjustments:
Powdery mildew behaves differently than most garden fungi. While high humidity triggers the initial infection, the spores actually prefer dry, warm weather to multiply and spread via the wind.Prune the Worst Leaves: Immediately cut off and destroy heavily infected, yellowing leaves to reduce the spore load. Do not compost them.

Increase Airflow:
Thin out the dense, crowded vines. This lowers the micro-humidity around the foliage.

Stop Nitrogen Fertilizers:
High nitrogen causes rapid, tender new leaf growth that is highly susceptible to mildew colonization.

But while I like the potassium idea as a fertilizer, Non of these methods retarded insect attack very well and I kept moving to oils like neem as they seem to be less work for more effect.
