The second edition of Collectorzone is a little earlier than planned as bidding on the item in question ends in a couple of days. This is the first arcade video game, Computer Space, and it is up for auction at RR Auction, with bids closing on August 21st, 2026..

One of the rarest examples of video game arcade history is currently up for auction, with the bidding at the time of writing around $12,000. Current owner David Perry has decided to sell the 1973 unit after running out of (Computer) space.

Computer Space usually sells as a single player unit, but this is the two player variant and is believed to be even rarer. A single player machine sold in 2024 for $69,773, so there is a strong chance that the final few hours of bidding will take Perry’s machine beyond this total.

Listed with RR Auction, the two-player Computer Space arcade machine is described as:

Rare original two-player edition of the Computer Space arcade video game manufactured by Nutting Associates and released in July 1973, two years after the original one-player edition released by Syzygy Engineering, the company that evolved into Atari.

Computer Space two-player differs from the original unit in several ways. Beyond the space for an additional player, there is also the switch from buttons to a sort of paddle/joystick combo.

In terms of the green finish used on the two-player versions of the game, it seems it is in good condition considering its age.

The cabinet is in fine condition, with some slight scuffing and scratching to the body; the machine itself lights up, and the screen is functional.

This is what you can expect to see on a working unit, which this version is listed as:

Computer Space is an arcade version of Spacewar!, a computer game developed at MIT in 1962 by a team led by Steve Russell for a DEC PDP-1 minicomputer. This video gives you an idea of Spacewar!, which seems to be the direct ancestor of Asteroids.

If you’re interested in learning more or bidding on this extremely rare Computer Space two-player machine, head over to the RR Auction page and place your offer.
