A tour graphic with a filigreed border of pink and orange, and a white center. Each show is listed in two columns and at the bottom there is a picture of Gaelynn Lea's book cover, as well as her press photo. It reads tickets available at violinscratches.com/shows and says that each venue is wheelchair accessible and there will be ASL interpretation provided.
A Graphic for my FULL Book Launch / Concert Tour. Many more details below!

Hello, Dear Friends!

I hope this message finds you well! I know there’s a lot going on in the world and that much of it is really sad, infuriating, and scary. I wish I could say it was otherwise. But today, whilst in the middle of my Community Ed Zumba Class (which is the best, by the way!), I was struck by how many people are indeed doing their part to improve their little corners of the world. Like my Zumba instructor, for one! And many more—the Community Ed organizers, teachers, custodians, nurses, doctors, daycare providers, farmers, grocery store employees, poets, artists, Grandmas, Grandpas, personal care attendants—there are so many people doing what they can to keep our society running!

In the middle of the chaos, it helps to acknowledge the ways in which each of us are supported by and connected to each other. None of us can operate solo on this planet. Folks we may not even see keep our daily lives operating smoothly—like mail carriers, the sanitation workers, and the powerline technicians who restore our electricity when it storms! I have to believe that the vast, vast majority of us are here for each other. It doesn’t excuse or deny atrocious behavior on the part of the overly-powerful minority at the top, but to deny the foundation of care and goodness we experience every day is to leave out a big part of the story. The truth is, we are interconnected. That’s why love, service, kindness, creativity, and cooperation are our biggest hopes for the future. Let’s strive to practice these values, setting an example for others through our actions and not just our words. And if we have to recommit ourselves, then let’s recommit!

I am sending this newsletter to officially announce my book tour: I am doing eight events in different cities across the country (one of them has a virtual component!) to celebrate the launch of my memoir, It Wasn’t Meant to Be Perfect. Technically I could send this email tomorrow, of course, but I really wanted it to go out tonight because it is exactly 10 years (to the day!) since NPR Music made the announcement about me winning the Tiny Desk Contest. March 3, 2016 was the day that forever changed my life; and—weirdly—I think I knew it at the time. But I would never have been able to foresee the specific twists and turns of the past decade… All I know for sure is that I am incredibly grateful to the countless kind and caring people who have supported me (and Paul!) on this musical journey. I am so excited that a new journey is about to begin, and I truly hope to see you out there on the road (or online) if you can make it!

This is a collage of nine graphics -- one white one to announce the full tour and the other eight in various jewel tones to announce the individual shows. I don't want to kill you with too much alt text, so all I'll say here is each graphic features a picture of my book cover on the right hand side and small, round photos of each of the conversation partners. But each poster has the same info that's in the body of this email! I hope that is sufficiently informative! Annoyingly, Substack won't let me do ALT-text for each individual photo. IMAGE DESCRIPTION: A collage of nine graphics, arranged into a 3x3 square. The first graphic is white, with lots of text, and it announces the full tour. The other eight graphics are distinguished by their various jewel-toned backgrounds. Each individual event graphic features a picture of my book cover on the right side and on the left side there are small, round photos of the conversation partners. Each graphic contains the info available in the body of this email!

ACCESS:
All venues on this tour are wheelchair accessible and will have ASL interpretation.

BOOKS: Books will be sold at each venue, and I’ll be able to sign them for you after the event!

A sea green graphic to advertise for the Substack Zoom Book Club. There is a cover of Pema Chödrön’s book on the left-hand side, titled "Welcoming the Unwelcome". The text reads: Substack Zoom Book Club / "Welcoming the Unwelcome" by Pema Chödrön. First session: March 15th at 2pm CT, Read Chapters 4-8. Second session: April 12th at 2pm CT, Read Chapters 9-14. Third session: May 17th at 2pm CT, Read Chapters 15-20. For Paid Subscribers! Join here: gaelynnlea.substack.com
Here is the graphic for the next THREE Substack Book Club Meetings on Zoom! Hope you can join us—we had great discussion last time we met!

A few weeks ago we tried a new form of gathering together for paid Substack subscribers. We started a Book Club for Pema Chodron’s 2019 book, Welcoming the Unwelcome. We had a lot of fun and we’re planning to continue reading it for the next 3 months. Come join in on the discussion, even if you don’t get a chance to read the book ahead of time! It’s a very thought-provoking topic, especially during these times.

  • First session: March 15th at 2pm CT, Read Chapters 4-8 ahead of time, if able.

  • Second session: April 12th at 2pm CT, Read Chapters 9-14 ahead of time, if able.

  • Third session: May 17th at 2pm CT, Read Chapters 15-20 ahead of time, if able.

These events are for Paid Subscribers only. Not a paid subscriber? You can join here!

PLEASE NOTE: We’ll be using Zoom captions by default, but if you need ASL or CART Captioning to participate fully, please email management@gaelynnlea.com at least 7 days ahead of the event & we’ll do our very best to accommodate your request!

Okay that’s it for now, Friends! It is exactly 11:59 PM, so it’s technically still March 3rd… I am sending this email out just in the nick of time! 😉 Take good care this month, and I hope to see you on the road in April… Thank you for all of your support!

With Love,
Gaelynn Lea

P.S. Get the Zoom link for the next Book Club (March 15 at 2pm Central!) below the paywall:
