Speaking of queers

Speaking publicly about homo stuff is somehow still very novel to me. Especially in a large public space.

We were asked to speak at Powerhouse Museum recently and we had a wonderful time discussing how we brought about our f*ggy lead character. Sharing our process of creating a flouncy queer to a crowd of people who were genuinely interested is something I won’t soon forget.

Alongside the joy of sharing our work was the joy of the space itself. It got me thinking about Studio Oleomingus’ museum works. While I’ve never had the privilege of being able to play any on-site, I try to imagine what it would be like to play The Indifferent Wonder of Edible Places in the context of the collection around it. With strangers looking over my shoulder. Like any artwork, a game hits different in an exhibition space.

Speaking of places, I discovered Joel Humphries’ glorious Queer Computer newsletter recently and am perhaps the last queer on earth to find Queering The Map. A pin placed on our apartment building reads —

“Lived here for a while with a friend who encouraged me to be my best queerest self. She's a mainstay in my life as one of my best friends and I will always thank her for what she did for me in terms of coming out, and being my best self, and thus learning to love myself.”

That’s really special.

Some news that makes me very happy, dear reader, Scott and I are spending our northern hemisphere Pride Month in Koh Samui, feverishly hoping that the chill of island life will empower us to finish off Queer Man Peering 🤞. Bangkok had its first official Pride March the day we flew in to Thailand, and while we missed it, we found ourselves surrounded by queers and 🏳️‍🌈 Pride energy 🏳️‍⚧️ as we sat having a nightcap over the road from our hotel.

Advice when working on a tropical island - it’s all about saving the margaritas until AFTER your work day.
