Fuzzy Cracklins · Fuzzy's best free music picks of the month

Just about every month (or sometimes more often), the Hungarian collective known as psychedelic source records releases an album of improvisational instrumental psychedelic stoner rock. The musicians tend to drift in and out of each session so that each album is a unique experience. And since it’s improvised, that also makes it a new experience each time. And the most amazing part is that these albums are consistently of the very best quality. If you dig psychedelic music and appreciate the best musicianship, then you need to give these guys a listen!

Released on March 30, the latest release from PSR is difficult to pronounce (☉ by 🜍) but easy to listen to! The session comprises 5 tracks with a total of over 45 minutes of music. The opening track “φρικτὸν ὕδωρ“ (and indeed the entire session) is a little heavier and fuzzier than most of their recent sessions, and it maintains the collective’s signature ability to create a soundscape that is both fascinating and relaxing.

Next up is “Tar” which clocks in at nearly twelve minutes of thundering guitars and fuzz. If you had to compare these guys to anyone, I’d say “early 70s Pink Floyd” but with a more energetic and fresher sound.

“Caduceus“ is the middle track of the session and goes heavy on the drums with the riffs dropping slow and heavy.

The 4th track, “Ritual Silence”, kicks up the energy level with more fuzz, feedback, and trippy vibes.

Closing the session is “Mahāpralaya” which opens right away with a distorted guitar solo and ends the session on a blistering note.

Fuzzy’s take: PSR delivers some of the best psychedelic music on Bandcamp, and this album is no exception. Dig it!!

Amazingly, these 45 minutes of awesome jams are FREE or NYP (Name Your Price) on Bandcamp. (And you can grab a code below!!) If you are into vinyl, then be sure to check out the large collection at PSR merch.

As is usually the case, there are copious liner notes to describe the instruments on this session, which band members were present, and some extra goodies, too. Read them here: album notes.
