Ahoy!
Before we get to today’s post: witchcraft for non-believers, I want to thank everyone who’s written nice notes about my paintings. It really means the world. Also here is a link to smaller works in my etsy shop for those that have asked.
Now, a few pop culture updates.
Who is watching the new season of Couple’s Therapy on Showtime? Is this the best show ever made?! I’m going to say yes. If you’ve never seen, it’s real couples in therapy trying to work out their shit. Orna, the therapist, has a little dog and a mentor named Virginia who always has wet hair. Virginia, why is your hair always wet? Don’t you know not to get in the shower right before you are about to be on TV? Do yourself a favor and watch. And no spoilers! I’m only on episode 4 of the new season.
I have never seen Free Solo but I watched The Dark Wizard on HBO. This is a four part documentary series about extreme rock climber Dean Potter. I know nothing about rock climbing, or extreme sports (besides emotionally eating three mini Hagen Daz bars in quick succession while watching the Mets lose.) This doc is bonkers! Did you know people jump off cliffs wearing “wingsuits?” It’s a suit that turns a person into a flying squirrel. I believe one out of ten people die doing this! Yet…people flock to Yosemite to try. Potter dealt with some mental illness, (to say the least.) The footage of him climbing rocks, and walking tightropes over canyons untethered, was STRESSFUL. I have a very high threshold for stress and I was sweating! This whole world fascinates me because I’ve taken a lot of stupid dangerous risks in my life, but ZERO of them have been related to exercise!
Now onto the business of the post. I’ve been struggling with letting go of an emotional situation. I never want anything to change or transform. Not relationships, jobs, friendships, or neighborhoods. Why is that sandwich shop I ate at 30 years ago gone? The outrage. I’m a sentimental guy.
But this particular situation has been very painful and filled with a lot of one foot forward, two feet back energy on my part. Besides the actual pain, I have added a layer
