…and not Sunday the 27th, as originally announced. A Saturday event is much superior for anyone who comes from anyplace further away than Waitsburg, and we’re hoping you’ll come! That’s Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 12-4 pm. with free food from 1-3 pm, including delicious corn on the cob. There’s going to be a beading lesson, and a kid scavenger hunt, and maybe a teepee project, and history displays, and other goodies, oh my!
Second, as we were unable to secure an air-conditioned venue for a weekend date for our genealogy event. As an in-person event would thus really restrict the event to local folks, we’ve decided do a Zoom genealogy event instead, on Thursday, July 23 at 7 pm. Tune in if you’re curious about how one goes about proving one is Canadian under Bill C-3, which established citizenship by descent for anyone who can prove they are directly descended from a Canadian citizen.1 Suddenly genealogy is ever so sexy!
But Canada aside, send us Frenchtown families questions, and let us do a little preparatory digging on your behalf.
Finally, join us for Frenchtown happy hour on August 12 at Reininger Winery from 3-5 pm, address 5858 Old Highway 12, Walla Walla, WA. This is a no-host gathering for Frenchtown friends who’d like to come hang out with the cool kids and talk about history. Reininger winery is located on the eastern edge of Frenchtown, and we’ll be armed with some very interesting old land records.
This newsletter brought to you by the Frenchtown Historical Foundation.
If you are seriously considering an application for Canadian citizenship, this reddit group was incredibly helpful, and they’ve put together a great deal of useful information and are populated with kind souls.
