Becca Post · Forward Healing Therapy + After

If you’ve been on our website before, you might notice it looks and sounds a little different now. That wasn’t a rebrand for the sake of a rebrand. It was us finally saying out loud what we’ve believed for a while: the old way of talking about mental health doesn’t actually describe what happens in the healing work our clients are looking to do.

For a long time, therapy websites (ours included) have listed out who they work with the same way: anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, etc. You read a tidy little grid of symptoms, like you’re supposed to find your diagnosis and click “book now.”

And what we know is that language matters, so the words we use to describe ourselves matter too. Anxiety, depression, trauma, etc, are real, BUT they’re clinical, and they help health insurance make sense of what we do, which is why we’re not getting rid of them. But we are going to give you a different language.

You see, we started noticing that almost nobody actually recognizes themselves in a symptom list unless someone gives you that title or we give you more details about what they look like. Often, you don’t wake up thinking “I have generalized anxiety disorder” (and if you do, nothing wrong with you at all, btw). You probably are more likely to wake up thinking “I’m so tired of holding it together. I don’t know who I am outside of what I do for everyone else. I love my family, and I still don’t want to become like them.”

That’s not a symptom; that’s a story, and we’ve gotten tired of the old model pretending the story didn’t matter as much as the diagnosis.

Instead of asking “what’s wrong with you,” we started asking “who are you underneath all of this, and what patterns brought you here?”

That question is the foundation for where our Forward Healing Model of Change® actually lives. Traditional therapy tends to follow the same loop: show up, feel a little better, graduate, something happens, repeat. People cycle in and out for years without ever really moving forward, not because therapy failed them, but because insight alone was never going to be enough to change a pattern that’s been running since childhood and sometimes even earlier.

So we built something that treats healing as a continuation, not a finish line. Four phases, moving with you instead of at you:

Land Safely - we slow down and make room for the actual story, not just the symptom on top of it.

Build awareness - you start to see your patterns, your triggers, your truth, clearly enough to work with them instead of just surviving them.

Rewrite and Rewire - the momentum picks up here. This is where you stop white-knuckling change and start actually living it.

Heal Forward - you don’t graduate because you’re “healed.” You graduate because you’re ready to meet a deeper version of yourself, and the work keeps going if you want it to.

Once we started thinking this way, the symptom list stopped making sense as the way to describe who we work with at our practice (though you’ll see it on our website because of SEO and health insurance). So when you hear us talking about who we work with, you’ll meet these three archetypes. Over the next few posts, we’re introducing three of the identities we see most often walk through our doors.

The Achiever Who’s Done Performing — the one who’s built a life, hit the goals, showed up for everyone, and quietly lost the thread of who they are underneath all of it.

The One Who Carried Too Much — the one who feels everything, has held everyone else together for years, and is just now realizing they need someone to hold space for her too.

The One Who’s Rewriting the Blueprint — the one who looked at what they inherited and decided, with clarity instead of anger, that the cycle stops with them.

If you read those and think that’s not me at all, that’s okay too. This isn’t about boxing you in; it’s about providing a mirror, not another label that feels like you’re trapped. Our hope is just that you see enough of yourself in one of them to stop scrolling and start asking what it might feel like to be understood before you’re even fully sure what you’re carrying - which is what we’re here for.

There’s the thing: we’re trained therapists, but we are humans first, and honestly we have all been where you are. We’re just lucky enough to have been able to sit across from hundreds of people and watch the moment they stop describing their pain in clinical terms and start telling the truth about it instead, which is usually where the real work begins.

If you take anything from this, it’s that you never needed fixing in the first place, you’re becoming who you’re meant to be, and we’d like to help you meet whoever that is.
