This is for Cities’ first newsletter of 2026. To kickstart 2026, we’re excited to announce the launch of the new for Cities website 🎉We hope this renewed platform becomes a place to think about cities together.
Over the years, we have continued our activities in various cities and places, meeting many people along the way. As our projects increased and the circle of collaborators gradually expanded, we began to feel that our previous website was no longer able to fully present all of these activities. In particular, we felt it did not adequately communicate the background of each project or the thinking processes behind them.
With this renewal, we aimed to create a structure that offers a comprehensive overview of what we have done so far, while conveying the questions that for Cities values, the people we work with, and the ways in which we engage with cities.
We also hope to gradually develop this platform as a place for collaboration with people who share similar aspirations.
Whether you are discovering for Cities for the first time or have been involved with us for a long time, we would be delighted if you take a look. Through this platform, we hope to imagine the future of cities together with you ☺️
The Projects pages on the new website bring together all the projects and work that for Cities has been involved in so far. By browsing projects by location or theme, or by following a project that catches your interest, you can get a sense of the questions we have asked, the people we have worked with, and the forms of engagement we have developed.
We recommend starting with a city or keyword that interests you. For those who have been involved with us before, it may also be enjoyable to look back and think, “Oh, I remember this project.”
We hope you will also find it useful as inspiration for future research and new initiatives.
The newly created Collective Research page is a space that reflects our intentions most strongly. Here, we will develop collective research projects—open to participants from around the world—to think about future possibilities for cities. For themes that for Cities has worked on, such as “Tropical Urbanism(s)” and “Hereness,” we hope to share outcomes while also welcoming your perspectives and insights.
You are also welcome to propose new research themes beyond those we have explored so far. Starting from this page, we hope to create a shared research space where diverse perspectives and experiences intersect, and where we can think about cities together.
Whether you choose to follow projects that interest you, or bring your own observations and questions from cities you know, we would be happy for you to participate in your own way. We hope this website will serve as an entry point for thinking about cities together and nurturing research collaboratively.
We are currently preparing a donation page on our new website, where you will be able to support the activities of for Cities financially.
Approximately 80% of for Cities’ activities are non-profit in nature.
Your support plays a vital role in enabling us to continue creating open spaces, fostering cross-border connections, and exploring more sustainable and inclusive ways of cities.

We’re excited to share that for Cities Week 2026 will be held again this year 🇵🇰!
The program will take place in Islamabad, Pakistan, from April 25 to May 1, and we are now open for participants!
