Dear Scribblers,
A very exciting week - the first two titles from the Mabel Adair Mysteries series by Scottish cosy crime writer Donna Moore have been published on audio by Penguin Random House Audio, New York!
Do go sample the audio narration - just a divine narrator. Sample of ‘The Devil’s Draper’ here. Sample The Unpicking here.
I’ve been brainstorming cover ideas this week for book 3: ‘Murder, Classified’ in May 2027. ‘The city is simmering: unemployment gnaws, miners are on strike, and a dangerous IRA prisoner is loose on the streets. The last thing anyone needs is a female policewoman - or ‘statement-taker’ asking awkward questions.’ (Each book stands alone - but if you fall in love with Mabel’s fight for women’s rights in 1920s Glasgow, well worth reading the first two to discover how Mabel was adopted by two suffragettes, and read about Mabel’s search to avenge her mother!)
And the first blogger reviews are going in for ‘The Angel of St Piran’ by internationally best-selling author, John Ironmonger!
‘Angel does everything she can to outwit the predators…
I quickly found myself loving each of the chimpanzees as we got to know each of their characters and explored the troops dynamics.
This is a fast paced compassionate novel about conservation, that highlights the awful reality of trophy hunting.’ @5star.books
Today’s topic!
Something I struggle with, and perhaps you do, too: being disliked.
Well, the truth is, not everyone will like your book.
You don’t like everyone, and everything - and neither does the average reader.
