When I’m not snapping up bargains on Vinted, decanting shampoo into travel-size bottles and doing my own home gel nails to save money, I do have the very occasional splurge. And in my head, that’s ok as long as the money you’re spending has a good return - the cost per use has to be a good one and, above all else, you have to find some joy whenever you use or wear the item. It has to make you feel good.
Here are nine of my favourites. Things that make you think twice (or twenty times) before buying but have proved their value over and over again. I’d love to hear yours - just add a comment.
Owala water bottle
I think I might have found my favourite water bottle. It’s big enough to last the day but not so big that it won’t fit in the holder in my car, and because it’s got a straw, it’s also perfect to grab a quick slurp from mid-pilates class. Owala’s customer service is great and I love the colour combinations.
Ugg slippers
A proper slipper that will see you through countless winters (and summers, to be honest). The thick sheepskin makes them feel luxurious and they look nice too - not overly granny-ish.
Tom Ford perfume
Obviously, I have never bought myself a Tom Ford perfume, I’ve only ever received it as a gift but if you have a special birthday coming up I would definitely recommend you go and have a sniff in your local department store.
This one - Cherry Smoke - is my favourite by far and although it isn’t what I’d call an everyday perfume it feels like such a treat when I do spray it on for a night out. It’s fruity and musky and just delicious!
Sweaty Betty Power leggings
This one won’t be a massive surprise to some of you but I haven’t found a pair of work-out leggings that have surpassed the Sweaty Betty Power ones and even though they’ve had a price hike and a change in material, I still love them. They hold everything in and never fall down plus they gave a super handy thigh pocket and a zipped one at the back. These leopard print ones are my current favourites.
Dyson Hairdryer
Definitely do believe the hype! I hadn’t until I used the one in a hotel room on a recent trip and was blown away (excuse the pun) with the results - it looked like my hair had been straightened as well as dried. Keep an eye out for discounts as I bought mine with 30% off recently.
Diptyque candle
A really good quality, beautifully scented candle is always a worthwhile purchase and you don’t get much better than Diptyque - Feu de Bois is may favourite.
Tretorn wellies
These boots were a recommendation from a friend and I’ve worn them pretty much every day since I bought them last year. They’re very comfortable (way more so than Hunters) and look great. They are a little on the large side so definitely size down if you’re between sizes.
Kitchenaid
I am definitely not the world’s greatest baker but my Kitchenaid is one of my most prized possessions. I’ve had mine for over fifteen years now and it’s just as good as the day we bought it.
M&S cashmere
I love M&S cashmere. This crew neck is the perfect shape and fit and the colour is so good. Really nice with white jeans!
