Fleet Obscura is a science-fiction universe built through stories, starships, schematics, technical records, design notes, corporate fragments, and field reports from a future industrial civilization.
It is not just fiction, and it is not just spaceship art. The stories and images are part of the same machine. A ship might appear first as a schematic, then as a design note, then as a technical plate, then later as something someone has to steal, repair, fly, survive, or explain badly to a superior officer.
The point is to make the future feel designed, used, compromised, bureaucratic, dangerous, and real.
If you are new, the simplest recommended Fleet Obscura reading order is:
Which explains how I think about realism, speculation, and where Fleet Obscura sits between hard science fiction and full magical nonsense.
After that, a good next read is:
Then I’d suggest these posts, which give a good introduction to the Fleet Obscura universe. Each links to the next article in the series, so you can simply keep reading.
Then move into the ships:
Fleet Obscura is the current project and the part expanding every week.
This is where I am building the world of 3055 AD: a crowded Solar System, industrial starships, corporate fleets, strange military procurement, delayed communications, deep-space infrastructure, and faster-than-light travel that comes with more problems than anyone sensible would put in a sales brochure.
The work grows through a mix of fiction, visual design, technical drawings, ships, corporate records, warning labels, maps, diagrams, and worldbuilding essays. The images are not decoration. They are part of how the world is built.
New York 2055 is the earlier, near-future layer of the wider universe.
It is the world of the Alice Yu books: Mechanical Intelligence, automation, crime, surveillance, mass unemployment, reprinting, corporate power, and a city changing faster than its people can understand.
You do not need to read New York 2055 before Fleet Obscura.
But if you want to see where many of the deeper ideas begin, start with the Alice Yu / New York 2055 reading order here:
The New York 2055 material is the foundation layer. Fleet Obscura is the current expanding frontier.
The visual side of Fleet Obscura lives on my main website, where you’ll find ship portraits, technical schematics, poster artwork and prints.
Fleet Obscura is being built in public, one ship, story, diagram, and questionable corporate decision at a time.
