Victor is moving toward another eminent domain acquisition at Eastview Mall, this time involving five parcels the town says are critical to the shopping center’s long-term economic viability. The Town Board scheduled a Sept. 28 public hearing, with officials saying the ultimate plan is to transfer the parcels to Victor 2040 LLC, keep them under local control and eventually return them to Wilmorite. Town officials and Wilmorite say the move is intended to address a dispute with Rialto over operating cash and reserves that they say has hindered maintenance and improvements at the mall.

High pressure will bring the Finger Lakes and Central New York their quietest weather of the workweek Wednesday, with mostly sunny skies and highs in the 70s to lower 80s after some patchy morning fog. Warmer and more humid air returns Thursday ahead of a cold front, with showers and thunderstorms becoming more numerous late in the day and a few storms potentially producing damaging winds, hail and heavy downpours. Conditions should trend drier Friday and into the weekend, with mainly dry weather expected Saturday and Sunday.

1. A barn was destroyed in an early-morning fire Monday on Mosher Road in the town of Scipio, prompting a large mutual-aid response from area fire departments. Crews arrived to find the structure fully engulfed and used handlines, tanker support and an aerial master stream while protecting nearby buildings. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire was not immediately available.

2. More than 11,000 people are expected at CMAC in Canandaigua tonight for a Luke Bryan concert, prompting a traffic advisory from the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office. Parking lots open at 3:30 p.m., gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the show begins at 7 p.m. Deputies are warning drivers to expect heavier vehicle and pedestrian traffic before and after the concert and to allow extra travel time.

3. A child and two adults were taken to hospitals after a head-on crash Tuesday morning on Bauer Road in Seneca Falls. Police said a distracted driver traveling south in a sedan crossed into the northbound lane and struck a pickup truck, leaving the child with a facial laceration and the two adults with chest pain and other minor injuries. Officers controlled the child’s bleeding before all three were transported for medical care, and the road was briefly closed while crews cleared the scene.

4. New York Attorney General Letitia James and Gov. Kathy Hochul said the state will defend a new law prohibiting local 287(g) agreements with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement after 15 county sheriffs sued to challenge it. State officials said the Local Cops, Local Crimes Act is intended to keep local police focused on community crime rather than federal immigration enforcement and noted that most New York law enforcement agencies were already operating without ICE partnerships. James and Hochul also said a court previously declined to block the law and expressed confidence the latest challenge will fail.

5. Health care advocates are campaigning in New York and other states over Medicaid changes and Affordable Care Act tax credits as the issue takes on greater political significance ahead of the midterms. Assemblywoman Dana Levenberg said more than 500,000 New Yorkers could lose health coverage or face sharply higher premiums, while Protect Our Care is pressing Republican lawmakers over federal health care cuts. Levenberg is also calling for passage of the New York Health Act, which would establish universal medical coverage in the state.

6. Sodus Point Mayor Pat Nolan is asking residents to take a neighbor-first approach to trash bins left in the village right-of-way after officials decided against stricter enforcement and fines. Nolan said residents should consider contacting neighbors directly when possible, while still respecting private property and avoiding handling someone else’s belongings without permission. The village is also preparing Lake Road for paving and expects additional paving work from the village limits to the Four Corners area in the coming weeks.
