During our move, I went through literally every piece of clothing I owned. Some of these stayed in storage, some were set aside to be resold, a LOT were donated, and many were brought with me. It was an interesting lesson in what I have, what I need, and what really doesn’t work for me.
We’ve moved to an area that is both more formal (a lot of people wear suits!) and less formal (our new school community is much more casual yet polished than our old one), which means that what I’m wearing needs to shift accordingly, based on where I am and what I’m doing. It’s a fascinating anthropological study, and I’m looking forward to keeping track of things.
My go-to uniform in the fall and winter has always been jeans and either a sweater or a great shirt. It’s helpful to know that this will serve me in good stead for a lot of my life here. I’ve also become very converted to wearing a jacket as well, after finally finding some great ones (thanks Ann Mashburn!) that were on repeat last year (seen here, here, and here).
As I’ve now gone through and touched every single piece of clothing I owned, I’m in the best position I have been in years to know exactly what I have, what I need, and what hasn’t been working for me. As I unpacked, I pulled together a number of outfits that I’m particularly excited to wear, which I wanted to share today—especially so I don’t forget them when I’m in the doldrums of “I don’t know what to wear!” I have a couple items to purchase, which I’ve noted in this list. Every other piece I either own or own a similar version of.
