The lunar nodes are my favorites. There’s the rest of the chart, and then there’s these two.
And they aren’t even objects. You can’t point a telescope at one. They’re the two places where the Moon’s path crosses the Sun’s, which sounds like bookkeeping right up until you remember that’s the only place an eclipse can happen. No crossing, no eclipse. Every time the light has gone out over anybody’s head, anywhere, in the whole history of people looking up, it happened at one of those two points.
So they run the schedule. Where the turn is, which door is about to shut, roughly when. Most of what moves in a chart is weather. This is the thing that walks in, rearranges the furniture, and doesn’t put it back.
They change signs on July 26. South Node into Leo, North Node into Aquarius, and there they sit until March 26, 2028.
Save this one. Screenshot it, put it somewhere you’ll actually find it again, because the nodes come back. Whatever the lesson is, it returns, in a different coat with a different face on, until the day we finally get it. We don’t get a vote on the timing and nobody gets to skip the class.
And over the next fortnight you’re going to read a great deal about this, most of it telling you it’s about community, finding your tribe, we’re all one. All true enough, more or less, and so far short of what’s actually going on that it might as well be wrong. As usual I’ll give it to you the way it is, not the way it’s about to get sold.
But before any of that, look at where we’ve just been, because it explains why we arrive at this one already tired.
Since January 2025 the nodes have been sitting on Virgo and Pisces, and they weren’t down there on their own. Saturn and Neptune both spent 2025 parked in the last degrees of Pisces. Three heavy things standing at the end of a sign, all saying the same thing in different voices. Loosen your grip.
So think back over the whole stretch. There was a list, and everything on it had a sub-item, and every sub-item had a backup. You rehearsed the conversation in the car on the way there, both sides of it. Somewhere in there we’d all come to believe the same thing. If I hold on tightly enough. If I get it exactly right. Then the outcome is mine.
It didn’t work.
You did everything right and it fell through anyway, and somebody who improvised the whole way got it instead. The trip planned down to the hour, the contingency for the contingency, and then someone got ill and none of it happened. And for a lot of us the whole year just rearranged itself around somebody who needed looking after, and everything we’d been quietly building went in a drawer, and nobody asked first.
Then the stranger half. Out of exhaustion more than any wisdom, you let go of the wheel, and something opened. Never from the part you’d prepared, and that’s what gets me about this axis. It came from the side you’d left alone. First time you called it luck. Then it happened again. That’s how learning arrives on that axis. Not in one go. By wearing down.
And look at what was being taken off us. The loop that ran all night and had solved nothing by morning. The symptom searched at two in the morning, then searched again with different words, hunting for a kinder answer. The habit of being useful, because useful was how we earned our place back when we were four.
We built all of it to stay safe. Nobody mentions that bit when they tell you to just let go. They’re asking for your safety equipment. Of course it felt like theft.
That was Virgo and Pisces, and it closes now. What replaces it asks for something else entirely.
South Node into Leo, North Node into Aquarius. So it’s the axis of the self and the axis of everybody else, and we’re being moved from one end of it to the other.
The nodes are joining something that’s already well underway.
For a few years now we’ve been quietly rearranging what we think power is. Who deserves attention, who we hand our trust to and why. Pluto walked into Aquarius in 2023 and the question of the many against the few started moving in earnest. The old deal, where money and fame and a big platform automatically pulled respect out of people, has been coming apart, and nobody organised it. It just stopped working.
Underneath all of it sits a story we were sold about how life operates. That it runs on competition. Nature red in tooth and claw, everybody elbowing everybody for a fixed amount of everything. A half-truth that got promoted to a whole one, mostly by people it suited.
So let me ask you something, and answer it honestly, just to yourself.
How did you actually get where you are?
Not the version you’d give in an interview. In the real one there’s a person who said your name out loud in a room you weren’t standing in. There’s somebody who taught you the thing for free, badly, on a Tuesday afternoon, and never thought about it again. There’s the one who covered for you the month you were no use to anybody. Most of us can find two or three if we sit still long enough. Most of us have never told them. Some of them are dead now.
That’s the actual architecture of a life. And nearly every one of us walks around with a private version where we did it on our own.
Look at what you’re made of, while we’re here. Every cell in your body descends from single organisms that stopped competing and moved in together. The mitochondria burning through your breakfast this morning used to be a free-living creature. Something swallowed it, and instead of digesting it, kept it, and those two have had an arrangement running for about two billion years. Being multicellular is a truce. Every tree you have ever stood under is trading sugar underground with fungi it will never see.
You have never done a single thing alone in your life. You were a committee before you were anybody.
So look at the odd shape of the problem. We’re built for this at the cellular level, and we’ve built something on top of it, at the human level, that gets in the way. That’s what’s about to be taken apart.
The thing standing in the way is Leo. Not the part of Leo you’re expecting.
So let me show you the smallest possible version of it.
Somebody you actually like sends you good news. Something real, something they’d wanted for a long time.
Watch what happens in the half-second before you answer.
Some days it’s just gladness and that’s the end of it. But some days there’s a drop first. Small, cold, gone almost before you’ve noticed it. And then the mind, being loyal, gets busy with the reasons it isn’t quite as impressive as it sounded. They had help with that one. It’s smaller than it looks. Timing, mostly.
Everybody alive has had that half-second, and anybody who tells you otherwise is lying to you or to themselves. I’m not going to call it a character defect either.
Now multiply it.
That’s the meeting where nobody puts the good idea on the table. That’s the family where doing well is a slightly dangerous thing to do, so everybody stays roughly the same size. That’s the friendship that goes quiet after one of you gets the thing. Nobody in any of those rooms is a villain. Every one of them just moved a fraction toward protecting their own light and away from lighting anybody else’s. And a thousand of those fractions is why so much of what we try to do together comes to so little.
That half-second is the smallest possible version of what the next eighteen months or so are for.
Because the sky is not asking us to be nicer about it. Nice was never the problem, and nice has never once closed that gap. It's going after the reason the drop happens at all, and it's going to spend until 2028 doing it. I'll come back to that at the end.
There was something you could do that the other children couldn’t.
Maybe you could draw. Maybe you were quick, or funny, or you could read a room at nine years old and know exactly what to say in it. Maybe you were pretty, which nobody lets you count as an advantage and everybody treats as one. Whatever it was, you didn’t work for it. It was there the way your eye colour was there. The adults noticed, and said so, and being noticed felt like being loved, because at that age there is no difference between the two.
And somewhere in there you learned the thing that’s still running you now. You watched some other kid work twice as hard for half the result. And you understood, with no words for it at all, that you were holding something you hadn’t earned.
Which meant you had no idea how to keep it.
Call it the gift, because that’s what it is. Handed over. You didn’t make it, though we all take the credit anyway.
And if you’re reading this thinking nobody ever singled you out for anything, stay with me, because you have one too. It’s just that yours is the thing you were told you were, rather than the thing you could do. The quiet one. The sensible one. The one who never gave any trouble. Same mechanism exactly, and if anything it’s harder to see, because nobody ever clapped.
And the sharpest place this gets tested is joy. Not ambition. Joy.
Leo is the sign of delight before it’s the sign of anything else. The capacity to enjoy being alive more or less regardless of the circumstances, which is one of the genuinely great human powers, and Leo is where we keep it. Nobody should be talking you out of that one.
But watch what happens to yours over the coming year, because this is where the audit gets personal. You’ll start noticing how much of what lifts you needs a witness. The meal photographed before it’s eaten. The trip that isn’t quite real until it’s been told. The good news you can’t fully feel until you’ve said it out loud to somebody. None of that is fake and none of it is shameful. It’s just fed from outside, and the supply is about to get interrupted.
And the trouble with a gift is practical before it’s emotional.
You can only ever see it in a mirror.
Think about it. Your face. Your voice. The way you come across when you walk into a room. All of it genuinely yours, all of it impossible to look at directly. Nobody has ever seen their own face, only pictures of it. So you spend your life checking reflective surfaces, and every person you meet is one, and when they all turn away at the same time you have no idea what you look like anymore.
So applause matters to the Leo part of us far more than anybody wants to admit. Not vanity. It’s the only mirror there is.
And now the half-second makes sense. If the only way to see yourself is in other people, then their good news arrives as something else entirely. The mirror swinging away from you. That’s where the quiet dimming comes from. The joke at the wrong moment. The qualification. The silence where congratulations should have been.
Not arrogance. Arrogance would be simpler. It’s a person watching their proof leave.
Feeling it is human. Acting on it is a different thing, and the distance between those two is most of what character turns out to be.
Aquarius is the other end, and it’s the part you made.
You’ll know whether you’ve got one. It’s the thing you were bad at for two years before you were any good at it. The skill nobody in your life would think to mention about you, because it isn’t what you’re known for. The thing you fixed, or finished, or kept going when nobody was checking whether you did. It’s usually unglamorous. It’s almost never what you lead with.
And feel the difference in your body, right now. You can look straight down at it. No mirror. It’s in your hands, and it doesn’t get bigger when somebody admires it or smaller when nobody notices, and if every single person walked out of the room you would still be standing there holding the thing.
Call it the build. Nobody handed it over. Nobody has to agree with it. The price is sitting right there in the sign’s reputation for being difficult, because Aquarius will take the position that costs it the room. It has already priced in being left out.
And there’s the mercy in it, which is the entire reason this axis exists. A build doesn’t need the room. Somebody standing on a thing they genuinely made has no reason to put anyone else out, because nothing about the next person’s light touches theirs. There is no switch to reach for. That’s the exit, and it runs through the foundations rather than the manners.
Gift to build. Nobody volunteers for that trip.
And there’s somebody on the door of that destination you should know about. Aquarius answers to Saturn, Saturn spends this whole run in Aries, and Saturn only ever asks the one question. Show me the thing you built. Not the thing you were born able to do. Not the thing that comes easy. The thing you made, that wouldn’t be in the world if you hadn’t put it there.
Most of us don’t have an answer ready.
And Saturn’s in a poor seat for the job, out of its element in Aries, which in practice means it can’t do you any favours even where it might want to. Nothing gets waved through. Whatever you put together in here you’ll put together slowly, without applause, and about two years later than you wanted to. That’s the deal on the table and it’s the only one.
And watch what that does to everybody else in the room, because this is the part that matters. Once you’re not getting your evidence off them, they stop being competition. Sharing stops being a virtue you have to perform and becomes something that costs you nothing, which is the only version of it that has ever held.
