gm ETH SD community,
Happy Monday, SD! We hope the weekend was enjoyable and relaxing.
Starting the morning with a poll :)
1. Next Event: BTC Pizza Day Party Next Monday 5/22!
Many moons ago, on May 22, 2010, a brave crypto pioneer completed the first crypto transaction: 10,000 BTC for 2 large pizzas. Now, that same date is a global holiday for blockchain enthusiasts and builders to commemorate the sacred purchase with pizza.
To honor this momentous day, ETH SD is teaming up with PizzaDAO to throw a pizza party for the SD community on Monday, May 22 at the Edge HQ. Sign up on Luma here: https://lu.ma/ethsdxpizzadao.
2. ETH SD YouTube Premier: How to Use Thirdweb
The ETH SD community greatly enjoyed hosting Thirdweb Developer Experience Engineer Jarrod Watts for a remote presentation on how to use Thirdweb at the Edge HQ on May 4th. Attendees got a deeper look at Thirdweb’s integrated CLI and easy-to-use SDKs.
Check out a full replay of the presentation above on the ETH SD YouTube, and be sure to subscribed to be notified about new videos automatically.
3. Community Spotlight: Franco M.
A member of the ETH SD for quite some time, Franco is a joyful person with interest and experience in DeFi and venture capital. In addition to being an Ambassador for Hop Protocol, enjoys learning about different Ethereum L2s and DAO structuring.

1. Eigen Layer
EigenLayer is a new Ethereum-based protocol that introduces restaking, allowing users to reuse staked ETH or liquid staking tokens (LST) to extend cryptoeconomic security to additional applications and earn rewards. This innovation enables Ethereum stakers to simultaneously secure multiple services, reducing capital costs for participation and increasing trust guarantees.
By allowing any service to tap into Ethereum's pooled security, EigenLayer fosters permissionless innovation and free-market governance, addressing the issue of security fragmentation in the decentralized ecosystem. Learn more at https://www.eigenlayer.xyz/.
2. Dark Web Monitoring from Gmail
Google has announced that all Gmail users in the United States will soon have access to the dark web report security feature, previously only available to Google One subscribers. The feature, rolling out in the coming weeks and expanding to select international markets, allows users to scan the dark web for their email addresses and receive guidance on protective measures, such as enabling two-step authentication.
Google will also regularly notify users if their email is linked to data breaches found on underground cybercrime forums.
3. LangChain’s Open Source Library
LangChain is a framework designed for creating applications powered by language models, aiming to enable data-aware and agentic interactions. The framework offers two main value propositions: components and use-case specific chains. Components provide modular abstractions and collections of implementations for working with language models, while use-case specific chains assemble components to best address particular scenarios, offering a customizable, higher-level interface.
Check out the open source library architecture map to get a better overview of the LangChain ecosystem.
1. Ethereum Mainnet Experiences Inactivity Leak
Ethereum experienced 9 consecutive epochs of non-finality leading to an inactivity leak this past week. An inactivity leak is a stake-reducing mechanism designed to incentivize stakers to fix any issues they have to get back online as quickly as possible.
It seems a large cause of the issue was a bug in the Prysm client which was quickly patched.
For more information on inactivity leaks and ETH 2 primitives, visit https://eth2book.info/capella/part2/incentives/inactivity/#fn-1
2. US Chamber of Commerce Weighs in on Coinbase vs. SEC via Brief Filing
The US Chamber of Commerce has backed Coinbase in its legal dispute with the SEC over a proposed lending product, criticizing the SEC's lack of clarity in regulating digital assets. The Chamber's amicus brief argues that the SEC's uncertainty harms the economy and innovation, potentially stifling the crypto industry's growth.
The support from the Chamber is viewed as a positive development for the cryptocurrency sector and could influence future regulatory decisions.
3. A New Twitter Culture?
Last last week, Twitter CEO Elon Musk announced he would be stepping down to focus more on product and software as the company’s CTO. In roughly six weeks, NBC Universal Global Advertising & Partnerships Chairman Linda Yaccarino will assume the role of Musk’s replacement full-time.
Yaccarino is also an Executive Chair of the World Economic Forum, which parts of Twitter found particularly interesting.
We’ll keep you posted every Monday on what’s happening in the space. Follow @ETHSanDiego on Twitter or visit ethsd.org for info on events, educational content, and more!
See you next week,
