Alright, this is a big one, so let’s get right to it: we have a big, beautiful new website.
What does that mean for you? Finally, you can experience the art, photography, and journalism of Esses on the internet. Should you still collect every issue? Of course. It’s always going to look better in print. But you can now read about Carlos Sainz, Rex Orange County, Yuki Tsunoda, and so much more at Esses.com.
Better yet, we’ve brought on a ridiculously talented roster of writers to give you web exclusives every month: Tiggy Valen, Olivia Hicks, Alba Carballal, Gregory Leporati, as well as editor-at-large Toni Cowan-Brown and yours truly will be posting timely and fun Q&As, essays, mini-profiles, and historical deep dives for the site.
And that brings us to Big News, Part 2: after this week’s newsletter, we’ll be leaving Substack. Nothing will change for you except the format of this newsletter. Each week, we’ll have a short intro and then links to the best stories of the week.

He is polite, but unguarded, and extremely present. For many athletes, media availability is a box to tick. Lindblad is eager and focused…

It’s after the race that things get even testier, as Gragson confronts K-Mag with some colorful language.
“What the fuck’s your problem?” he asks, inches from Magnussen’s face. “Nothing,” replies Magnussen, showing little emotion. Gragson escalates the tension with some more four-letter words until Magnussen calmly concludes, “You fucked around… and you found out,” before a PR rep separates the two.

The visual contrast was stark as I scanned the grandstands from my vantage point. I am a bald, tattooed Black woman. I was acutely aware that I was likely the only Black passenger on the Wind Surf, and that hyper-visibility followed me straight into the Monaco crowds…
By Olivia HicksIt’s difficult to imagine exactly how the wasp species lived nearly 100 million years ago, but Jouault predicts it was pretty similar to its family tree of relatives: a predatory wasp that paralyzes its prey with a needle-like stinger.
A silent killer, kind of like Piastri…
This will all look much more beautiful on our new newsletter platform. But for now, enjoy the website and enjoy the reading. And hopefully, we’ll see you in London next week…
