You've Been Asking... So Here's the Full Story

If you tuned into last week’s video where I sat down with my dear friend Nitsa for her Three Bowls of Tea series, we touched on my never ending quest to find a replacement for the beloved La Tierra Sagrada shampoo, conditioner and mask. Those 3 products are still some of my absolute favorites, and I’ll admit... I’m a bit of a snob after spending 25 years doing hair and working in high-end salons between New York and Los Angeles, and then creating and formulating my own products for 11 years.

It has been quite the journey, and I’m not going to avoid the fact that it’s been an emotional one. I made a promise to my clients, to all of you here, and to every person who continues to reach out asking what I’m using now that La Tierra Sagrada is no longer available. I genuinely wanted to find something I felt excited to recommend. I thought it would be easier than it has been.

I’ve spent the last several months trying as many beautiful brands as I could get my hands on. Some were gifted, some were recommended over and over again, and some are considered the gold standard in the clean beauty space. In trying out all of these new suitors, one thing became very clear pretty quickly... this wasn’t going to be a simple list of products I love or don’t love. It became a much bigger conversation about ingredients, formulation, fragrance, performance, and what I personally value after a lifetime of doing hair.

I have the kind of hair that can honestly use just about anything, but I’ve learned that what really matters isn’t how your hair looks after one wash. It’s what happens after weeks and months of using the same products consistently. And because I only wash my hair about once a week, whatever I’m putting on my hair stays with me. I need it to perform beautifully, I need it to work with my hair type, but most importantly, I need it to smell the way I want to smell.

Because this conversation is very nuanced, I’m putting the rest behind the paywall. I want to share my honest experience without reducing it to a list of products I like or don’t like…
