As I always hope, at least, the last two months of comics are a satisfying (to me) mix of commentary and expression, practice and grappling with putting ideas into words and pictures. Even though I’ve been doing this for nearly 16 years (!!!) my audience is small and it’s just kind of something that I do.
Coincidently, I was doing some reading and research for my ongoing Graphic Design MFA program today, and I came across a statement by the well-regarded CalArts faculty emeritus, Edward Fella:
You make because you believe in wanting to do that.
And I have to agree :) It drives these little comics and it also gets me to try numerous other things with making images. If nothing else I have to believe in the wanting to do it, and I also very much love the tactile sensation of "making a thing” and having something to look at.
A little later into April I’ll try to post some additional images from my MFA work in progress. For now, enjoy the comics…and try to find your own ways to civilly express an opinion or voice a concern.
