To a good and decent man…
"The best of people are those that bring most benefit to the rest of mankind."
— Prophet Muhammad ﷺ (Hadith)
When someone you love passes on, you reflect on their life.
And though we all know deep down, death always reminds us that a good life has nothing to do with money or status.
Because when it’s all said and done, all you remember is who they were and how they acted.
You don’t think about the big things, you think about the little things:
The things that made them laugh, the way they kept their books in order, the way they’d always investigate the squeaky sound, the way they’d fold their pyjamas and place them neatly on their bed, the way they’d walk with their hands clasped behind their back.
You also think about their spirit, and the imprint they left on your life more than you think about how ‘great’ their life was.
And with that said, it’s clear that a life that is pure and good is as simple as getting the basics right:
Being good and reliable and available to your loved ones. Being supportive. Being hardworking. Having the discipline to do what needs to be done. Being kind to your fellow people and animals alike. Laughing a lot. Being serious when you need to be and having fun when you don’t. Having all your things organised and correct and orderly. Keeping yourself hygienic and groomed. Not getting in anyone’s way or meddling into other peoples’ business. Having balance and not pushing anything too far. Minimising complaints and maximising positivity.
Really it just boils down to leading by example and being a good and decent person, which we all inherently know how to do.
So don’t let the lives of those before us go in vain by getting distracted.
Live optimistically and simply and good.
There’s nothing more than that.
Sincerely,
eren
