Today’s wars in the Persian Gulf are closely linked to political strategies and shifting international alliances. They have far-reaching effects on the global economy, technological development, trade, and the environment.
At the same time, the human cost of conflict remains central, particularly in terms of health and humanitarian conditions. Understanding these dynamics also requires attention to their historical roots and to the long-standing tensions that continue to shape relations among communities in some of the world’s most fragile regions.

ELEONORA ARDEMAGNI
Senior Associate Research Fellow (ISPI). Teaching Assistant, Catholic University, Milan. Adjunct Professor, ASERI. Affiliate, Middle East Institute (Washington). Former Gulf Analyst, NATO Defense College Foundation. She is currently researching on conflict dynamics in Yemen, and on political, security and military issues in the Gulf monarchies (with a focus on Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Oman). Among her areas of expertise, there’s also maritime security in the Red Sea region.

CINZIA BIANCO
Research Fellow at the European Council on Foreign Relations, where she writes and advises on the security, political, economic developments in the Arab Gulf and relations with Europe. She has a PhD from the University of Exeter and is an Adjunct Professor at LUISS University.
ANISEH BASSIRI TABRIZI
Associate Fellow, Middle East and North Africa Programme. She provides political, security, and operational risk analysis for Control Risks on the Middle East, specializing in Iranian and Iraqi politics, geopolitics, and regional security. She has worked in academia, think tanks, and consultancies, including NATO Defence College, the London School of Economics and Political Science, and the European Council on Foreign Relations.
JELENA JUVAN
Associate professor at the Department of Defence Studies at the Faculty
of Social Sciences, University of Ljubljana and a researcher at its
Defence Research Centre. Her work focuses on European and international
security, crisis management, military operations, and cyber and
information security.

MAITE ALEMANY
Associate Professor of Public International Law, International Criminal Law, with a parallel role in administration and as an equality advisor at the Courts Valencianes. She has over 20 years of experience in international cooperation, women’s human rights, and gender-based violence, working in Latin America with organizations such as the United Nations Development Programme and UN Women.
CARLA FIBLA GARCÍA-SALA
Journalist specialized in international affairs and the Global South, with 18 years of experience as a correspondent in Arab countries for Cadena SER and La Vanguardia. She has worked on communication campaigns for organizations, including Amnesty International, and served as Press Officer for the Fundación Vicente Ferrer. Since 2019, she has been a political analyst and coordinates the Culture section of Mundo Negro.
ELSA MAARAWI
Sociologist who researches migration and gender issues relating to the experience of exile. She is currently writing a thesis on the life stories of Syrian families in Lebanon and northern France.
ANNE XUAN NGUYEN
Research fellow at the Research and Information Group on Peace and Security (GRIP). She is currently working on peacekeeping issues in French-speaking countries, with a particular focus on information-related challenges and environmental issues in peacekeeping missions.
