Rani Jain · Emotional Methods

It is important for leaders, founders, creators and individuals to understand the emotional value of their own presence because it naturally affects the way they create, represent and connect (OP 102). Reflection upon the way people connect with them can give direction in this context (refer OP 101), not only for understanding what they offer naturally through their presence, but also the emotional values they may bring into the work, identities and spaces they affect.

So the question here is: ‘What’s the value of identity X-individual’s presence?’

Exercise:

(Gratitude, Curiosity, Magnetism, Authenticity: all Greater Emotions btw)

From interactions carrying above emotional values as reference, answer the following questions:

  • What is the nature of the Emotional Space that you hold for people?

  • What do you naturally offer them?

  • Why do they like interacting with this space?

  • What makes them drawn to it?

Deciding Core & Dynamic Emotional Values

The answers discovered above can be translated into an identity’s emotional space to get a direction about how it can connect with people:

  1. as Core Emotional Values: For individuals as source of creation (refer pt. 2 in OP 102), the identified emotional values can be directly made an addition to the core emotional space of created identity

  1. as Dynamic Emotional Values: For leaders and decision makers the identified emotional values can be used to add value to their work or, as source of creation, be added in the dynamic emotional space of the identity they are in charge of. It could either visibly reflect through a product or service (this is how for example different creative directors shape collections in luxury brands- like how Alessandro Michele brought emotional values of maximalism, theatricality, nostalgia and eccentric self-expression into Gucci, fundamentally changing the identity’s visible expression during his tenure) or reflect experientially through culture by intentionally functioning from such emotional values.

Finding the Right Spaces

Refer the interactions identified in the exercise and answer:

  • To highlight spaces where you can function in your authentic version:

- Who are these people?

- What traits and emotional values do they carry?

- What roles are they playing in their work and lives?

  • To figure out from what emotional values to position yourself in identified spaces:

- What are the common traits and emotional values in you and them?

- What emotional values of yours played a role in creating emotional values of Curiosity, Gratitude and Magnetism in the interaction?

Note that the interactions and people you are fond of, naturally feel drawn towards, often indicate the nature of emotional spaces you want to exist in more.
