A phrase I’ve been repeating over and over for the past several years. One of my finest inventions. And it applies to more than just evenings! At work, I’ve even got my sports-bro co-workers saying, “just another day in our twenties.” It’s a beautiful sentiment that transcends interests, cultures, and social groupings. The one and only thing it does not transcend is age.
On this day in particular, age, and being between the ages of 20-29, strikes me as important because today my little sister turns 26.
Oh 26…… I think back on my 26th year of life and recall some of my most iconic achievements. Allow me to list a few:
got laid off from my corporate job
wasted tens of thousands of dollars
started doing yoga all the time
downloaded Hinge
short term recreational Benadryl usage
started Emma’s World <3
wrote some of my finest works
found inner peace, then lost it, then found it again, in a cyclical karmic process that continues to this day
I hope for my sister’s sake that her 26th year is different from my own, though honestly I hope it’s not too different — I learned a lot from my own stupidity. Learned so much, actually, that it turned me into a genius.
I think that’s how most people learn. From dumb mistakes. And my sister’s a fucking idiot (white shoe lawyer) so I’m sure 26 will be quite the education. Love you so much, baby sister.
