Thank you to everyone who tuned into my conversation with Gabrielle Treanor on Wednesday! You can watch the video above where we talk about:
How ADHD presents in women and why this means many women realise much later in life that they have it
How much women can mask and manage their ADHD symptoms
How women may use alcohol to cope with overwhelm and overthinking
The connection between understanding your ADHD and self-compassion
If you suspect you have ADHD, do you need to seek diagnosis?
Why so many women in midlife are discovering they have ADHD
We reflect on how much we manage and control our lives, and how this can be a coping strategy for women with ADHD. The fear of being ‘found out’!
Gabrielle shares about her newsletter, podcast, The Quiet ADHD Club and Better Read Book Fest taking place 3 October.
Gabrielle Treanor is a coach, writer, author and podcaster living in Wales, UK. She supports introverted, sensitive women who discover they have or think they have ADHD later in life, to understand, accept and love themselves, to work with their brain and build inner calm and confidence, so they can experience more peace, fulfilment and joy every day. Gabrielle was diagnosed herself with ADHD aged 48.
She hosts the The Quiet ADHD Club online membership and works one to one with coaching clients. She also has a published book The 1% Wellness Experiment, the Pressing Pause podcast and she is currently creating Better Read Book Fest – the UK’s first literary festival dedicated entirely to wellbeing books.

I’m Ellie Nova and I’m a sober coach, mother and writer and am probably neurodivergent (it’s an ongoing exploration for me!) Many of the women I support through 1:1 sober coaching and in The Soulful Sober Circle have ADHD or suspect they do. Some of the ways women use alcohol to cope with ADHD are:
Too slow down a busy mind
To quieten down critical thoughts
To suppress feelings of shame
To feel a surge of excitement and novelty
To cope with sensory overwhelm
To help them ‘fit in’ when socialising
To feel more confident socialising
To rest and have a break
To get to sleep
Of course, alcohol only provides a temporary escape by changing your brain chemistry and sedating your body. The next morning, those painful feelings and the overwhelm is all there waiting for you again. You need to find ways to understand and work with your unique brain and your needs so that you no longer feel the need to drink.
If this is you, I’d love to support you to find healthier ways to take care of yourself so that you can thrive as your full, beautiful, unique self. I help courageous women break free from alcohol for good and create a life they may only have dreamed of. I promise you it’s possible. You can book a free discovery call with me here »
