I return my focus to the ground
beneath my feet,
the texture of my palms,
the curls and swirls of my fingerprints and
in this moment, I am safe.
I trust in the quiet,
unseen weavers of Good
who are working alongside me
in every corner of the earth.
All is well
within my little world.
I am a soft place
for the world’s sharp
stories to land,
yet they do not all need to stay
with me.
It is possible for me to be a
calm presence during
global uncertainty.
I believe in a justice
that is sometimes invisible,
and mysterious, but certain.
I will not apologise
for feeling overwhelmed.
I will notice colour and detail
in the small things
when the big things feel uncertain.1
I will find purpose in my rage
and redirect it in productive ways,
to overcome evil instead of adding to it.
I give myself permission to look away
knowing this doesn’t mean
that I don’t care but allows me to be present
to the people and places before me.
I will release the weight of things I cannot touch
and pour my attention into what I can.
Even when the news is loud
and information is fractured
I will feel the rhythm of grace
steady in my own heartbeat.
I am grateful
for what is ordinary - just a simple, unremarkable day.
“Mercy, healing and redemption, are God’s great labours”.2
