Last Saturday, August 15th, was one of the biggest holidays of the year in Italy. Ferragosto is when families come together, usually at lunch, for a huge feast. But like every year, the heat made us decide to come together at dinner instead. And, like most years, we were up in Umbria.

This year we hosted it at our house, with family and friends. And like every single year, I panicked and thought: I have no idea what to make. The trick is finding a menu that feels both festive and abundant (it’s a holiday!) but not too heavy (it’s the middle of a heatwave).

I think this year I came up with the perfect balance. Mostly vegetables from the garden, but with enough cured meat (which Umbria is famous for) to make it filling without being overwhelming.

Below is the complete menu and recipes, in case you want to throw your own end-of-summer party.
