Soft, intentional mornings are my favorite way to ground myself before a full day as a MD/MPP dual degree student at Harvard.
Did you know I started a new youtube series? We are on episode 3 already! My “Becoming Dr. Laurence” series is a look into some of the key lessons of my medical journey thus far, so far we’ve talked about my decision to take a “5th year” to get my Masters in Public Policy, on authenticity in medicine, and today I’m sharing my morning routine.
My mornings are so critical to my well-being. Before the hectic-ness of the day takes over, I try to make my mornings as peaceful as possible. This means jazz in the background, taking time to do my hair and makeup, and setting intentions for the day.
These past few month,s stepping out of medical school and into policy school have remained demanding - but in a different way. Having a 10:30am start versus a 5:30am start has made it possible for me to return to my YouTube roots and create this video series for you all! I really hope you’ll enjoy the videos.
Some habits I aim for in the morning
keeping my phone away from bed
5-10 minutes of journaling
set schedule for the day
prayer and devotionals
motivational podcast
making my latte
taking my vitamins
stretching and soft movement
playing jazz music
skincare and serums
All in all, my typical morning routine takes an hour, I found that keeping the routine simple is more important than trying to do an elaborate mix of all my self-care practices into the morning - instead, the most important thing is how I *feel*.
Do I feel rushed? Stressed? Overthinking?
Following the above habits helps push those kinds of emotions to the side and instead set my day up feeling grounded.
I hope you can start this week some soft and slow starts to your day. Let me know what habits you stand ten toes down on or any you are aiming to try.
See you next week!
Kye
