It’s the first day of school in Bulgaria. As I walk to the bus stop, I’m passed by a mom and a child running to catch the first bell. The child is carrying a huge bouquet of flowers. I walk past blocks that look the same as they did 15 years ago – even the graffiti are the same. It’s a chilly overcast morning and all my photos are coming out blue-ish.
I’m back home in Bulgaria for a week. My first stop is Stara Zagora, to visit my grandma. Flying back home to Bulgaria from San Francisco with a 24 hour layover in London. Heading into the city with the new-ish Elizabeth Line. The speed of the train and the setting sun seem to confuse the camera sensor. The photos are coming out blue. I point the camera at the sky to try to help the auto levels understand. I still get anxious when I photograph strangers; I catch my finger in the frame.
On a daytrip to Kamakura today, about a 90-minute train ride from Tokyo. Kamakura was the 4th largest city in the world in 1250 AD, but today it’s a quaint tourist destination, mostly known for its temples and beaches. Day 3 in the Philippines. We visited the Taal Volcano, located about 50 kilometers south of Manila. Taal is the second most active volcano in the country, and the latest eruptions were reported just this June! In the middle of the lake is Volcano Island, where the eruptions come from.
