Ed Brisson · Ed Brisson's East Coast Dispatches

Hey folks,

I’m tucked into my workspace, hidden in a corner of my apartment, while it snows like mad outside.

I’ve been struggling with a script over the past week and a half. I’ve tossed it out and restarted it twice now, which is pretty rare for me. It’s been frustrating, but I know the script will be better for it in the end. Or at least I hope it will? Who the hell knows? Maybe it’ll kill me and we’ll all be worse off in the end.

As 2026 quickly approaches, I’ve been trying to get a couple of pitches finished and out the door — both are for creator-owned projects that have infected my brain, unwilling to let go until I exorcise them by releasing them into the world. One is a project I’ve been noodling with since the early days of the pandemic; the other is something I’ve been playing around with since I started writing THE DISPLACED. It’s not connected, but is more of a spiritual cousin to THE DISPLACED.

Neither has an artist attached, which will be the next stage — always the toughest part for me in putting together a pitch.

Okay…enough nattering. Let’s get to it. As promised in the subheader, there’s a free digital comic for you this week, folks. Continue reading for details!

WILD ANIMALS #5

My latest crime book, in which I had the pleasure of working with artist Andy Kuhn, colourist Dee Cunniffe, and letterer Rob Jones comes to an end this week.

Those who know me know that I love writing crime. I don’t get to do it nearly as often as I’d like, and because of that, it’s bittersweet to bring this series to a close.

Spending time with Neil — a down-on-his-luck kid, pushed into a corner and fueled by a misguided fantasy of justice — has been one of the highlights of 2025 for me. Writing his character has been incredibly cathartic. I can’t thank Mad Cave enough for helping to bring this book to life.

If you haven’t been following along, I won’t spoil too much for you, but I will give you a free digital copy of WILD ANIMALS #1. If you like it, then please consider picking up #2-5 or ordering the collected trade paperback from your Local Comic Shop.

THUNDERCATS: LOST #9

Official solicitation:

The Lost team stands at the crossroads! In this issue: Scorpius’s past is revealed, laying out a complicated and tangled account with the ThunderCats that stretches back hundreds of years — and threatens to rewrite generations of Thundera’s history! Meanwhile, Pumyra, Lynx-O, and Neko face an impossible choice: Will they risk the mission to save their missing teammate, or press forward in search of the Book of Omens, ensuring the future of all ThunderCats?

Find out in this penultimate issue of ThunderCats: Lost, newly declassified by ED BRISSON and RAPHA LOBOSCO and enhanced with added coverage from DECLAN SHALVEY, ALFREDO CARDONA, MEGHAN HETRICK, MARCO FAILLA, and JAE LEE & JUNE CHUNG!

This book has been fun as hell to write. This is a big one for revealing just how much of a big player Scorpius actually is — something that will have big implications in future storylines within the Thunderverse.

Elton Thomasi stepped in for Rapha on art duties this issue and did a hell of a job. There are a lot of great moments in this issue, building to our explosive finale next month — including some nice callbacks to earlier issues for longtime readers.

I mentioned last newsletter that I’ve been doing a lot of photography lately. If you’re in Halifax and curious to see some of my work in person, consider coming out to THE DECEMBER SHOW at ViewPoint Gallery.

From the Gallery:

You’re warmly invited to explore ViewPoint Gallery’s annual DECEMBER SHOW, running from December 4 to 21, 2025.

This year’s show presents a lively mix of artwork, including charming framed miniatures (12x12 inches or smaller, starting at $30), seasonal art cards at $5 each, and—new for 2026—a curated display of large framed prints in a range of prices. These pieces are ideal for holiday gifting. Take home your favourite framed miniatures and art cards on the spot; large framed prints will be marked SOLD and stay on display until the show closes on the 21st.

Join us for the opening reception on Thursday, December 4, from 6–8 pm, and enjoy snacks and refreshments while browsing for that perfect holiday gift.

ViewPoint Gallery is located at 1475 Bedford Highway, The December Show will be on display from December 4 to 21.

The hours of operation for the December Show are from Wednesday to Sunday, 12-5 pm.

I have six framed miniprints for sale for only $40 each. Additionally, I have a piece hanging in their Gallery B.

If you’re in Halifax, come on out to the opening reception on Thursday. I’ll be there with bells on.

Okay, that’s it for me this week. It’s stopped snowing outside (it’s raining instead), and I need to get back to trying to beat this damned script into submission. Wish me luck.

As always, here’s a photo of Lasagna to keep your spirit going:

Lasagna tucked into his bed, which is mounted on top of my desk. He’s always there. Always watching.

Until next time!
