Gee Contreras is a selector and vinyl collector whose deep connection to Black music was shaped in Bogotá’s hip-hop scene and has continued to evolve since moving to Madrid. A true connoisseur of rap, disco, Latin jazz, and salsa, her eclectic taste also embraces Caribbean and African rhythms, 90s beats, and the rich Latin New York sounds of the 70s.

#Neo Soul #Contemporary R&B

Gee: Brand new Album, after 11 years this queen came out with this amazing LP full of soul and joy, showing she is still one of the best. Soul, hip-hop, RnB and even some housy tunes.

#Hip Hop #Boom Bap

Gee: This song is a tribute to graffiti writers, from last year’s new album. Preemo and Nas together again, it just brings me back to the 90s raw sound. This track really gives that classic Gang Starr vibe, (of course it is Premier!) thanks to the cuts and scratches he uses.

#Latin Jazz

Gee: Icelandic / Colombian Percussionist, super jazzy vibes I discovered a few weeks ago via Gilles Peterson. The full album is beautiful, but this version from KEXP is magical.. Probably some kokoroko vibes.

#Salsa

Gee: this track is from Willie’s second album which includes classics like el lio, It is a pure latin jazz piece. All the instruments have a solo part and even if Willie’s trombone is the lead voice, for me that piano solo from Markolino is killer.

#Cumbia

Gee: 100% Colombian Made. Traditional sounds like cumbia and vallenato mixed with phycodelic sounds, rap, non normative voices and the majestic accordion from Ivan Medellin. This record and everything this guy has done is FIRE. full with guests from the Bogota underground scene, like N-Hardem, Mismo Perro, Eblis Alvarez from Meridian Brothers among others.
