When Facebook got rid of fact checkers, that was the final straw for many, or so we thought. In the months following Mark Zuckerberg's January 2025 announcement that he was basically done moderating content and was going to have the community police itself, I heard from so many, especially in my FB groups, that they were "so done" with Facebook, yet, collectively, most of them are STILL on Facebook.
The problem with Facebook and many of the "big tech" companies is that we are at the whim of the decisions of one (sadly, almost always petulant) man. And when you're part of a system where everything is controlled by one centralized system – it's almost monarchical. You have no control.
There are alternatives, however– Decentralized apps and systems that give the users control over their posts and data. Alternatives to Instagram, Twitter, FB and more. In this video, I outline a few of them:

We're in a new era, where we don't have to be subservient to these big apps. This is a movement, but it will take collective action, and trial and error. It's the most optimistic era for decentralized tech that we've lived in, so check it out!
