What is up?

New episode of Drummers on Drumming is out now.

This week, we’re back with another installment of The Drum Panel.

This is part one of a two-part conversation with myself, Eric Urrea, and Kyle Adams.

Kyle plays drums for Cartel and does a ton of session work from his studio outside of Seattle, and I was excited to finally get him in on one of these.

In this episode, we get into:

  • Why tempo can feel different on stage

  • Trusting, and questioning, your internal clock

  • Playing with and without a click

  • Big cymbals, smaller cymbals, and changing taste

  • Shedding old influences

  • Drumming identity and imposter syndrome

  • Fitness and longevity behind the kit

  • Posting from purpose versus pressure

As usual, we don’t really land on one perfect answer. That’s kind of the point.

Hope you enjoy this one!

And if you’re into the show, leaving a rating or review really does help. It makes it easier for more drummers to find the podcast, which means we can keep making it bigger and better.

P.S.

What’s an old influence you’ve tried to shake, but still hear in your playing?
