The Feminine Inversion

There is a modern diagnosis for which there is no lab test, and I see it in almost every woman who comes to me. Whether she’s come to talk about a man who disappears, a womb that won’t conceive, or a life that feels like it’s not what she wants after she spent half her life building it.

Here is how you can tell:

She is so smart and capable that she initiates and chases and manages with men - because she doesn’t know any differently.
She carries the emotional labor for both people and thinks this is the loving thing to do.

She keeps doing all the tasks, mindset work, opening, clearing, and not much changes in what she receives and is able to hold.

A woman who’s always initiating, tracking, and pressing the timeline forward of asking her body to conceive will have taken the decidedly masculine, the yang, the sperm, the penetrative, “output” stance she desires in a masculine man. When her fertility depends on her taking the feminine, the yin, the egg, the “input” stance of letting him come to her.

A woman in the Feminine Inversion may get pregnant but often miscarries, as her progesterone is in a precarious position with the high cortisol override of the yang life she has been leading year in and year out. This feels devastating to a woman who is used to “doing everything right and getting what she wants”. It’s a heartbreaking reality that the energy that built her career is the same one that destroyed her fertility.

Too much cortisol will destroy the progesterone needed to regulate her cycle and maintain a fetus. But all is not lost. The feminine body can and will heal with the right love and attention.

In other words, she is rewarded for taking the masculine role and looked down upon for her natural, biological, Feminine role.

Her brain is literally wired to seek the reward for being more like fast-swimming, high-motility sperm than the magical, receptive, summoning egg…and her body and relationships pay the price.

She may have symptoms of insomnia, anxiety, and hormone depletion - hello infertility.

She may encounter many “womanizer” men to show up big and then collapse in their lack of capacity. She will over and over meet rootless men who create emotional connection and then dissolve into the wind, the men who pursue and withdraw, promise and retreat.

These are all symptoms of a woman’s suppressed Femininity or separation from her Yin.

For a woman utterly married to being in charge, this process will ask something quite provocative of her - it will ask her to give up control.

She will be asked to essentially reverse gears from:
Output to input
Yang to Yin
Penetrator to Receiver
Charging ahead to allowing life to approach her
Constant stimulation to rhythms of action and stillness
