So… you’ve been thinking about this thing for a while now.
Maybe for you, the “thing” is a job search that feels stuck in a loop of endless online applications. Or a business idea that only lives in a Google Doc. Or a leadership challenge you keep meaning to tackle once you “have a better handle on it.”
What if you’re not stuck just because you’re lazy or scared (well — maybe a little scared, but that’s ok). What if you’re stuck because you’re trying to build the full plan before you’re willing to take a step.
These seven prompts are here to interrupt that. They’re ✨ not ✨ about getting more clarity before you move. Because — as we learned in Part I of this series — charting the map IS the work.
So let’s get out of planning and get things moving instead.
📌 Save this for the next time you find yourself planning instead of starting.
Not what you wish you had, what you’re trying to build, or what you’re waiting for — but what’s already in your corner. Your skills, your relationships, your experience, your resources, your reputation — let’s write it down like you’re making an inventory.
Be boring about it. Be thorough. You’re probably richer than you think.
Try it: Set a timer for ten minutes and list everything. If it helps, you can use these four subheadings: Skills, Network, Lessons Learned, Resources. When the timer goes off, circle the three things that feel most relevant to where you want to go, and see if you can find some inspiration to start leveraging those assets.
Not the version you’d be proud to announce — not even a finished draft — but what’s a small-but-real next step that would get you some data?
Hint: It’s probably ✨ not ✨ something you can do at your desk.
A job seeker’s smallest version might be one coffee chat (not a fully updated resume and LinkedIn profile). A founder’s smallest version might be one conversation with someone who has the problem you want to solve, not a business plan. A leader’s smallest version might be an active listening session with a few different stakeholders.
Try it: Finish this sentence: “The smallest step forward on this, that would still give me real data, is ___.” Then ask yourself: what’s stopping you from doing that this week?
