Parasites are much more common than we realize. According to a 2023 review, 1 out of 4 people are living with intestinal parasites. In subtropical countries, up to 50% of the population can be infected. Parasites are commonly found in many foods and can even be transmitted from pets. Fortunately, nature has provided us with many foods that can weaken and even kill these unwanted hitchhikers.
Different parasites can infect different parts of the body, with some that can even end up in the brain and nervous system. In fact, 1 out of 3 people are infected with a parasite of the nervous system, but a healthy immune system keeps it from causing obvious symptoms. Make anti-parasite foods a part of your daily diet, while avoiding the foods where parasites are often found.
Using proper hygiene, especially when preparing your food, is also essential, which will prevent any cross-contamination. This is why when we order veggie sushi at a restaurant, we always insist that it’s prepared with clean gloves, a clean knife, and a different cutting board.
Maintaining proper digestive flow is also essential to help the gastrointestinal tract to eliminate these unwanted intruders and it’s eggs. Neurologically-focused chiropractic care can not only improve motility of the digestive tract, but also improves sensory feedback to allow the brain and immune system to deal with parasites more effectively. Healing and adapting from life’s outer and inner challenges is much easier when the mind and body are working in harmony.
