It’s summertime which means you may have a college student or a twentysomething living at home.

For some parents, that’s fun: “I love having my kids around,” one parent told me last week.

For others, it’s agony: “My daughter just sits around on the couch and complains about how tired she is,” a different parent said.

For still others, it’s a mixture of both: “I like having my son around, but all the chaos, it’s really tough to watch,” is a common sentiment.

The secret to having a twentysomething home is to treat them like an adult. Let them know you’ll be on equal footing for the summer in terms of what everyone contributes.
