Dr Elizabeth Dalgarno is a lecturer and researcher in women and children’s health and justice at the University of Manchester, UK, and the founder and director of the global SHERA Research Group. She is a world-leading academic expert in her core area of research - how coercive control, institutional abuse and post-separation abuse, especially in the family courts, impacts women and children.

In this article, I discuss some of my interview with the extraordinarily brilliant Zawn Villines (podcast out soon) and the history of child sexual abuse and why it is so common. If we truly want to stop this catastrophic harm, we must challenge power itself, including powerful institutions, wealthy individuals and systems that silence victims while protecting their own reputations.
