I like to use voice to make notes then go in and edit… don’t a lot of writers do that? I think so.
It’s totally unpublishable. These are my rambling voice notes. Mine.
Before you start, I want you to think about something. Photography pays off if you're patient. That's it. But you're gonna need more than just the patience to wait for light. You'll also need that patience to see what's already there, that you can't see when you get there. I'd like to call this book, the quiet in between, the time between tasks, between the thoughts, and between who you were as a photographer and who you are now. Every shooter has a time when the work seems too easy, maybe too familiar. And the first thing you want to do is find something new, like new gear, new photographer to emulate, new techniques. I don't think that's where growth happens. I think growth starts when you start slowing down and noticing small changes, changes in light, color, and shape. Most people don't see that stuff. But it's the difference between seeing pictures and taking pictures. So before you start, do this. Take a few deep breaths. Take away the pressure to do well. Quietly look around until you see the pictures in front of me, and I believe they are there. I've always believed they are there. We have to slow down and slow our minds, and the photographs that are in front of us will reveal themselves. Now, this book isn't going to help you make perfect pictures. It's not going to help you with your technique. It's going to help you see the world clearly enough that the pictures start to see, start to make themselves. Why this book was written?
