“It's nearly inevitable, then, that you will someday encounter a boulder in the living room of your life. That boulder is the belief that you are unlovable. This false belief fuels the frantic search for something external to yourself that confirms you are indeed lovable.”

― Gay Hendricks, The Big Leap

This false belief that I am unlovable is at the core of my frantic searching and obsessive thinking. I fall into the trap of looking for something external to make me feel “good enough.”

“It’s the ultimate trick,” Gay Hendricks writes, “by that ultimate trickster, your ego, to hold on to its job.”

When I agree with the lie that I am unlovable I make room for the boulder in life and my ego stays in control.

The truth is I am worthy of love. I have value. And my identity begins here.

How are you making room for the boulder in your life?
