We are in the middle of an intense heatwave. My town sends out warnings when we are in Red Alert. We try to get out early and run errands and then hide inside. The thick walls help keep it cooler downstairs, but heat rises, and upstairs, in the bedroom, it’s hot. We finally got a small A/C unit, and we had to cut a hole in the window for the tube to go outside. Our house is made of stones and brick, and the walls are too thick to install a standard A/C unit.

I prefer my standing fan when we go to bed, to keep me cool.

Every year, it’s been getting hotter, earlier. Global warming is no joke.

As a kid, I grew up in the Bay Area, outside of San Francisco and it was always hot like this in the summer. We had no A/C. Somehow, now that I am older, I just can’t handle the heat anymore.

We had a refreshing thunderstorm this afternoon. Just waiting to see if the humidity kicks in as well.

When it’s this hot, we tend to simply assemble dishes using fresh fruit and vegetables from the market, along with pantry staples.

Tomorrow, I will be doing a LIVE on substack with Frank Fariello and Giovanna Solimando on A Taste of Summer in Italy- ideas for typical summer menus as well as what Italians survive in the summer.

The Live will take place next Thursday, June 25 at 10am PDT (Los Angeles/San Francisco) /1 pm EDT (New York/DC) /6pm BST (London) 7pm CEST (Rome).

This week’s recipe for my paid members is a fabulous Tuna pate’.

There are so many different variations. I love this version, it’s light and fresh.
