I love re-creating artworks as a way to explore and build on my skills. Constantly looking for ways to simply the elements with a limited colour palette. I use this practice as a way to further refine my lesson plans for the drawing workshops I deliver.
I find this to be such a rich learning experience.
For this doodle illustration - I referenced - Study for gum-flowers and 'love'(c. 1860) Louisa Anne MEREDITH NGV Collection, using art materials I provide as part of my workshops.
The challenge was creating the variation of greens so that the work had some depth, using a limited palette of 7 colours (Micador’s 6 colour wheel & payne’s green), and taking care to not let my line work over power.
