Finding books while exploring a dungeon is always exciting. How old is it? What mysteries does it hold? However, sometimes it can be a letdown.

Why? Because there is no detail or realness in the game world.

In The Great Book of Random Tables, I created 1,000 book titles to give gamemasters options. In the second edition, I improved the book titles. I removed weaker ones and added more interesting ones.

I also created a new table: BOOK CONSTRUCTION AND CONDITION.

I realized there wasn’t enough detail to really make the books feel real in the game world. I wanted objects that could inspire storylines and possibly entire campaigns.

Here’s a taste of the new random tables:

As you can see, these new details add so much to the books. They add realness without becoming too cumbersome. There is even more where these came from.
