One of my favorite quotes is from Cornel West: “Justice is what Love looks like in public.”
Today, we witnessed the opposite. We witnessed Congress approving a bill that, far from being beautiful, codifies injustice for the majority of us, to give more money to the already-obscenely-wealthy.
Injustice on this scale is what hate looks like in public.
I wonder if anyone I know celebrated this bill the way House Republicans did today. If so, they are not living a theology of love, and I don’t know yet how I will be able to interact with them…if I will be able to interact with them. That’s a problem for another day.
I am fearful for our nation; I am more fearful for the most vulnerable among us.
I will have more to say later, but tonight, even as I grieve and rage, I want to remind us all that even this grotesque display of hatred and injustice cannot stop us from loving, and from co-creating a more loving world.
Our work is not over.
Love calls us onward.
