  • UK gives the green light to Paramount: The UK gave an effective green light to the Paramount x Warner Bros Discovery deal after assurances were provided on key topics, including assurances about Channel 5's editorial direction and kids' TV.

  • Box Office is on fire: This year will see its fifth $100M+ No. 1 weekend at the US box office as Spider-Man: Brand New Day is looking at $135M-$140M+.

  • Amanda Knox at Edinburgh Fringe: The author and comedian, who was wrongfully convicted of the 2007 murder of Meredith Kercher, has responded after a petition to cancel her Fringe show Cartwheel gained 10,000+ signatures.

  • Acast opens up Video: Acast now allows all creators on its platform to publish video on Apple Podcasts, saying the move will allow more podcasters to monetise video content.

  • Publishing under the spotlight: The collapse of major book deals for authors like Jerry Falade & Mia Ballard, following AI use speculation, has ignited a fierce debate regarding whether authors of colour face disproportionate targeting, unverified digital profiling, and systemic bias from automated detection tools.

  • Ted Lasso S4: The hit series generated mixed reviews with its latest premiere and return on Apple TV.

CULTURE & CREATIVITY:

  • Snap tackles slop: Snap has joined YouTube, Substack & LinkedIn in an effort to stop ‘AI slop’. The platform said it will stop recommending “wholly AI-generated videos” in its feed.

  • Employee Branding: A new report by Sprout Social found that employee generated content is influencing product discovery with 40% of people saying that they discover new products as a result of employee content.
