For Mental Health Awareness month I’m dedicating a series of my Inner Cosmos podcasts to understanding the mind when it struggles.
This is a month of personal & honest conversations, and it matters because mental health problems affect everyone: you or someone you know/love.
The first episode is my interview with singer-songwriter Jewel about her struggles as a young adult; we talk about her battles, her learnings, and the lives she’s helping shape.
Next is Dr. Jud Brewer on anxiety. Jud is a physician & neuroscientist who studies a fresh approach to understanding & treating anxiety.
The video above is my interview with Jon Nelson, a man who spent years in the vicegrip of clinical depression. Listen for an intimate & forthright view of what depression is like… and the complex and surprising path by which he eventually got out.
And join me again next week with Jon Hershfield on obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) from the inside and the outside — and what can be done about it.
I view these episodes as critical because of the raw prevalence of internal, mostly invisible struggles. A deeper understanding of these (from private experience to brain science) benefits us all.
Thanks for joining me. And please, please pass these episodes forward to anyone who needs to hear them.
