As oil flows continue ramping up through the Strait of Hormuz and the IRGC appears to have become a paper tiger with a saber-rattling megaphone and not much else, the White House is finally, at long last preparing to implement an economic full court press on Iran this week.
Backed by data compiled by the UK’s Maritime Trade Operations Center, the New York Post reports that crude tanker transits through Hormuz via a southern lane secured by the U.S. Navy are up 400% over the past two weeks. That report supports last Thursday’s bombshell from Axios as well as Energy Secretary Chris Wright’s first revelation of the southern lane while visiting Midland, Texas last Monday. A general consensus around the veracity of these various reports has formed over the last few days though hard data remains difficult to source.
What it all means is that the IRGC is losing its grip on the situation even as the Naval blockade continues to successfully prevent Iran from exporting its own crude. Recent satellite images support that notion, showing little to no activity at Iran’s loading facilities at Kharg Island.
