I have had Spalding Gray on my mind of late... he was funny, dark, light, and inspiring. I wondered how much of his performance was improv and how much was carefully edited scripts. I had lunch with him once because a friend of his thought I could get someone I knew with money to produce him. Nothing happened, and I remember thinking he was the saddest person I had ever met. I got a whole dose of Mr. Gray from this post by Laurie Stone.
My Urgent Care Visit... when I tripped and face-planted the bill was $14,000 — I have Medicare and a supplemental insurance, but yikes. I am not sure where to begin or end with this topic.
In 2026, I needed a change, and I cut off my hair. I liked it immediately. It made me change out my wardrobe. Clothes looked better with this head. My hairdresser’s name is Madge, I have gone to her for 35 years. Email me if you would like her contact info. It is even shorter now.
As I write this, I am aware of the tinkling sound of the recycling plant that is down the hill from where I live. It is in the background, layered with traffic and a mourning dove. If I focus on sound, the traffic is the loudest, but then I hear the mourning doves assert their sad song... and the tinkling also carries through. I saw a small woman with two of the largest size garbage bags possible, full of smooshed cans, hanging off a stick on her shoulders, crossing Bay Shore Blvd last week, and I wondered how long it took and how much she got for that. Her fortitude and focus were impressive. There are days I would like to put a container at the bottom of our hill, and we could put our cans and bottles in it for the folks that pass by, but of course other things would go in, and... but it would be easier than climbing our hill on garbage night and rooting through random blue bins.
Word of the day: Logorrhea, thank you, Tina Brown, it means pathologically incoherent, repetitive speech. Hmmmm.
Here is an example of fraud that I received this week. Be cautious of everything, hesitate. And while you are at it, hesitate while shopping online. There is a good chance in a week you will look at that cart and say no, even though I am drawn to that calf stretch thing that is in mine now as you read. I recently changed the location of the title to the house I own in Santa Fe. I got a very official-looking notice from "Home Title Services" saying I owed $285.00. It came with a return envelope and looked very legit. It is not necessarily an actual fraud... it is a company that collects this money from you and does nothing. It is trying to catch you off guard with something you do not often do and yet are aware is important. Gosh, read the small print, it is more important than ever.
Sending big love on a Saturday,
Darc
P.S. I use Claude to correct spelling and punctuation, and prior to each ask I say, "Please do not change any content."
